Carmen Haakstad

Born February 17, 1956 in Sexsmith, AB (North of Grande Prairie Alberta ,Canada).
Married to Gail, 3 daughters, 1 grandson,1 granddaughter.

Current Occupation

  • Vice President, External Relations – Grande Prairie Regional College
  • Member of the Senior Executive Team
  • External Relations Responsibilities includes, Alumni/Foundation ,Corporate Communications, Marketing, Student Recruitment
  • And Douglas Cardinal Performing Art Centre (GPRC Theatre)

Prior / Other Occupations:

Over 33 years in the “Not for Profit" and Development field and owner of a commercial gallery for 12 years.

  • 1980 to 1987 – Director / Curator of Prairie Art Gallery
  • 1985 College - Fine Arts Instructor
  • 1987 to 1989 – Student at University of Alberta
  • 1989 to 1990 – Director of Extension Services at Grande Prairie Regional College
  • 1990 to 1997 – Executive Director of QEII Hospital Foundation
  • 1997 to 1999 – Executive Director of the Community Foundation and Campaign Director for Centre 2000
  • 1999 – Development Director of Grande Prairie Emergency Medical Services
  • 2000 to 2005 – Executive Director of Advancement at Grande Prairie Regional College
  • 2005 to 2007 – VP External Relations, Evergreen Park
  • Co-owner with wife Gail of Unique Gallery for 12 years (commercial)
  • Current Owner of Carmen’s Image’s Inc. President / Artist

Education:

  • BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) from University of Minnesota (Duluth).
    • Graduated with distinction in art.
  • Numerous - AHP, AFP , NCMPR and CCAC fundraising/management courses.
